Six places in La Libertad to eat well by the sea
Seafood, Surf City cooking, craft beer, and Pacific views: a short route through the places we recommend to guests between surf sessions.
La Libertad is a beach province, but it’s also a province of the table: seafood straight off the pier, wood-fired pupusas, and young kitchens reinventing local ingredients. Here’s a short route you can build from the compound.
1. La Libertad pier seafood market
The most honest experience: you arrive at the pier, pick your fish, and they cook it on the spot. Ceviches, cocktails, and whole fried fish.
- 12 minutes by car from casa marea
- Perfect for: long lunches
2. Palo Verde (Playa El Zonte)
A short menu, a direct ocean view, and an impeccable grill. Arrive at sunset and order the catch of the day.
3. La Guitarra (Playa El Tunco)
Bowls, tacos, and long breakfasts with a beach view. It works well as a stop after a morning session; we especially recommend it for the sunset.
4. Covana Kitchen (El Zonte)
One of the best kitchens in Surf City: a thoughtful menu, local ingredients, and a room that invites you to linger. Ideal for dinner or an unhurried lunch after El Zonte.
5. Beer Station Surf City
A wide range of craft beers and good food in a relaxed setting — a fine plan for sharing a table after the sea.
6. Local comedores in El Sunzal
Near casa marea there are pupuserías and lunch-of-the-day comedores in El Sunzal and around it. Real cooking, local prices, and well worth it if you’re in the area for a while.
To rest again
Days of eating a lot call for a cool, quiet space. Ceiba, among the treetops, is our recommendation for a long siesta. If you prefer something more intimate, Cueva Studio 1 and Cueva Studio 2 are twin studios built for deep rest.
